Air leaking from the International Space Station (ISS) has blown the mind of the American Space Agency, “NASA.”

On the ISS, the air is leaking from the Russian part of the ISS, and NASA is trying to resolve this issue. This issue was first discovered in 2019 in the “PrK vestibule” of the Zvezda module, and till then this topic is still under investigation.

In the recent report, the Inspector General of Nasa highlighted the importance of this leakage and said that in April 2024 this leakage had increased to about 1.7 kilograms per day, making the ISS program at the highest level of risk.

But the latest report is satisfied. NASA said that after the recent repair work, the leakage is now reduced to about a third. But the reason for the leakage is still unknown, and NASA and Roscosmos both are concentrating on the internal and external welds.

As per precautionary measure, the astronauts were not using this Russian part due to the leakage. Both space agencies, NASA and ROSCOSMOS, continue to cooperate to explore this issue and the overall repair work of the ISS.

If the situation is out of control, then they have already decided to seal the hatch permanently. As a result, the ISS would lose the docking port for the Progress and Soyuz spacecraft.

This leak is one of the major challenges faced by NASA to alive ISS till the end of this century. Note that the ISS will work till 2030, and after that NASA is planning to deorbit the ISS, and for this NASA will collaborate with SpaceX to perform the deorbit mission of the ISS.
