402TB/Sec A new world record for Internet speed

Tokyo: A team from Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communication Technology (NICT) just transferred the data of 402 TB (terabytes) per second and set a new world record. This speed is almost 5 million times faster than the average broadband speed in the UK.

The researchers, who work under the guidance of a NICT-based photonic laboratory, said that they developed a unique system capable of covering all transmission bands of standard optical fiber, and through this system, they achieved this speed.

NICT says that a new method of opening previously unused wavelength regions could be adopted in future telecommunication networks.

NICT further describes to their own work, that this new technology will play a vital role in increasing the communication capacity of the optical communication infrastructure because, in the future, the speed of the internet will be a more demanding aspect of the internet.
